The 4T trail is an urban loop that combines a journey on a Trail, Tram, Trolley, and Train in a single loop - hence the name! It's most popular as a counter-clockwise loop that begins with a hike and ends with a trip on the MAX train. The trail starts at the Oregon Zoo and climbs uphill through Council Crest on the Marquam trail. After about 4.5 miles, you reach Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) and the top of the Portland Aerial Tram. Ride the Tram down into the city and take the trolley through the heart of downtown Portland. There are various trolley options here but they all run in a continuous loop every few minutes and take you where you want to go. Depart the trolley on SW 10th Avenue next to the Multnomah County Central Library and follow the signs to the MAX train station that will take you back to the zoo. Note that you will need a Tri-met pass to ride on the train and trolley. The Aerial Tram is free going downhill, but if you decide to do the 4T loop going clockwise then you will need to buy a ticket since you'll be taking the Tram uphill.
