Commonly done during the Basic Climbing Education Program (BCEP), this hike is a good conditioner for climbing Mt. Hood as well as practicing rope team travel and crampon techniques.

Activity Notes

BCEP Team 09 Palmer Conditioning and skills practice hike.  The Palmer hike has been customized based on BCEP student input for start time, skill focus areas and learning objectives.  This will be a one day hike of Mt. Hood South Side up to the top of Palmer glacier. Depart from Climber's Registry at the Timberline Day Lodge at 4:00 AM on Tuesday, May 14th, 2021.  The start time may be adjusted due to conditions. Will return to the Timberline TH by early afternoon. Also note that the hike may be cancelled or postponed due to weather/avalanche considerations.  Climbers are advised to update climber profiles with accurate information including most recent glaciated climbs and current training plan over the last two months.
