Visit Wahkeena Spring, the Christmas Ornaments Trail, Cougar Rock, and Nesika Lodge for dramatic views of waterfalls, basalt formations, and the Columbia River. This trip is primarily a loop that takes the Multnomah Basin Road up and the Larch Mountain Trail back, and it's most appropriate when access to Multnomah Falls is closed off.

Activity Notes

The Ornaments Trail needs help! Consider bringing a colorful, durable holiday ornament and hook. Once we reach this short trail tucked away in the hills east of Multnomah Falls, we'll hang a few new ornaments on this once vibrant trail. We are starting and ending our loop at Wahkeena Falls because of Covid restrictions at Multnomah Falls. Lunch will be outside Nesika Lodge, and we will also visit Wahkeena Spring and Cougar Rock. Please note that the Mazamas are adhering to all state and local regulations in offering our activities. Review our policies at mazamas.org/covid19. You will be required to wear a mask within 6-ft of another person and to always have a mask at the ready in case we pass by others on the trail. We actively discourage carpooling at this time. If you are sick, you are asked to stay home.
