Maple Trail is a lush, somewhat secluded trail within Forest Park. Maple Trail begins and ends at the Lower Saltzman Trailhead and you can do the loop either clockwise or counterclockwise. The loop involves sections of Wildwood and Leif Erickson Drive. Please note: the Lower Saltzman Trailhead is notorious for car break-ins. Leave nothing of value in your car; preferably leave it as empty as possible so as to not entice thieves.

Activity Notes

Please note that the original meeting location for this hike was wrong. Most of us will try to meet at the MMC and carpool from there.

Because of the harsh weather forecast and the altitude of Silver Star Mountain, we changed the hike to the Maple Trail in Forest Park. Parking may be limited. Therfore, we should still try to carpool to the trailhead (Lower Saltzman Road Trailhead). For those of you on the east side of town let's meet at the MMC and depart from there at 7:00 am. If you are on the west side, you can meet us at the trailhead at 7:30 am, but please still try to arrange carpooling. You can still use the carpooling sheet that you can find here:

Dress appropriately for the bad weather we may encounter on the trail and bring sufficient water and food or snacks. But please don't share.

If you already have a compass, bring it along as well. Ideally, your compass has adjustable declination. Without it, you will have to do some math when you use it.
