Activity Notes

This is a one-day car-to-car climb of the Oregon Cascade's 6th highest peak and the highest summit between the South Sister and Mt. Shasta. In the early 20th century, Mt. McLouhlin still supported a glacier, named to honor one of the Mazamas early presidents, Charles H. Sholes.  Our climb is about 9 miles in length (round trip) and will gain about 3,825' along the east ridge to reach the 9,495-foot summit. Climbers should be in great shape.

The climb assistant and I will endeavor to select a team by early/mid July, but keep registration open until mid-August for the purposes of a waiting list. Our goal is to create a supportive and fun team made up of beginning-to-intermediate climbers. Recent BCEP graduates are especially encouraged to apply. People from historically underrepresented groups like LGBTQ, BIPOC and women climbers, and also our allies are likewise encouraged to apply.
