This is an A level Mazama Hike that occurs in a non-wilderness area. A level hikes are easy or less strenuous hikes with less than 8 miles in distance and less than 1,500 feet of elevation gain.

Activity Notes

We'll start out exploring Native American rock art in the Horsethief Lake section of the park. This will include a .75 mile, 90 minute guided tour to view Tsagaglalal (“She Who Watches”). We’ll then take a short drive to the Dalles Mountain Ranch Trailhead and hike the Vista Loop Trail. This hike offers expansive views of the eastern Columbia River Gorge and wonderful spring wildflower displays.  5.25 miles/ 600 feet elevation/  180 drive miles.

We will meet in the parking area near the Horsethief Lake boat ramp (located here).  Our meeting time is 8:45 am. The guided tour leaves at 9:00. Tours are limited to 20 people and each party must have a reservation. Our group has seven spots reserved for the April 26 tour. The area is otherwise closed to the public.

Discover Pass is required for parking at trailheads. One-day passes ($10) may be purchased at parking areas.
