The BCEP snow day field session is held in the gullies near Timberline Lodge. This day affords you the opportunity to practice snow skills such as movement on crampons, rope team travel, ice axe techniques, moving in balance, self-arrest, self-belay, as well as to observe snow anchors.

Activity Notes

Awww yeah let's get our SNOW SKILLZ on!  This weekend you will finally learn how to use those ice axes and crampons properly, how to glissade and self-arrest in the event of an accidental fall, and other various snow skillz such and rescue beacon/locator use, rope team travel, prussiking up a fixed line, and rappelling down a rope.  You will also learn some more belay techniques in the snow, and possibly some basic snow anchors.  We will also demonstrate and avy pit and show you how we determine whether an area is too dangerous for avalanche hazards.

We will meet in the Timberline overflow lot and perform our snow skillz nearby.  Please bring 3 AAA batteries for your avalanche transceiver.  Please also bring a dry change of clothing to change into once we are finished.
