With beautiful views, amazing spring wildflowers, and a relatively short effort, this is one of the most popular hikes in the Gorge. On a good day, you can get a view of Mt. Hood and the Columbia River.

Activity Notes

Dog Mountain is a very popular hike due to its easy access to the Gorge, beautiful views, and relatively short distance to Portland. This loop is known for prime wildflower viewing in the spring.

Hazards include poison oak so please use caution with getting it on your gear and on the rope.

We suggest washing all your gear, and your body in warmish water after the hike to remove the oil.

Out of courtesy for the car owners, please bring a large trash bag and a change of shoes.  Put your pack and dirty boots in the bag to keep poison oak out of people cars.
