Commonly done during the Basic Climbing Education Program (BCEP), this hike is a good conditioner for climbing Mt. Hood as well as practicing rope team travel and crampon techniques.

Activity Notes

Our plan this weekend is to build on the skills we’ve learned previously and to introduce technical snow climbing – including the use of an ice axe, crampons, glacier travel, self-arrest, and glissading.  All your rock skills (rappelling, belaying, passing through fixed protection) can be translated onto snow.  And we get to add some other fun stuff like self-arrest, quick belays, and roped team travel with running belays.
