Elk Mountain and Kings Mountain are two popular hiking destinations in the Oregon Coast range. The trails are a little more rugged than typical Columbia River Gorge or Mount Hood trails. They are lower elevation than Mount Hood hikes so they are possible in the winter when Mount Hood trails are snowed in. This hike is done with a car shuttle. We'll drop a car at Kings, and then shuttle over to the Elk Creek Trailhead and start from that location.

Activity Notes

This is a challenging hike with very steep ups and downs, some short sections of scrambling, and a rope-assisted down climb. Participants should be in strong physical condition with a recent history of similar activities. Feel free to email me with any questions you have about the hike.

For those who wish to carpool, we will depart from the MMC at 7:30am. Otherwise, you can meet us at the Kings Mountain trailhead at 8:30am. We will set up a car shuttle from the Kings Mountain trailhead to the Elk Mountain trailhead (a 5-minute drive) where we will begin the hike.
