Hike among rocks in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument that are up to 44 million years old. Expansive views of spectacular landscape. Fossil trees and nut beds.

Activity Notes

See fossil trees, an arch in the sky, nut beds and more on two lollipop hikes, one much longer than the other. On an 8 mile hike with 1,200' elevation gain, we'll envision what the area was like when the Clarno palisades formed 44 million years ago. The dramatic skies of eastern Oregon will absolutely make an appearance. We'll start and end our hike at the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument's Clarno picnic area.

This is the second of two eastern Oregon hikes I'm leading that weekend. If you plan to sign up for both, please see the leader notes for camping information.
