Activity Notes

Come for the Fall views of classic southern Oregon wilderness plus peaks from Shasta to the Ssters, get an extra helping of scree, rocky trail and routefinding!

We will camp the night before at a nearby campground, then wake up at 6 AM to begin our hike to the summit of Mt. McGloughlin, standing tall all by its lonesome at 9468' in the Fremont Winema National Forest. We will hopefully have lunch on the summit, return the way we came, and finish the day with a dip in a nearby lake and the long 5 hour drive back to Portland.

Interested applicants will receive a prospectus with information on the schedule, the campsite and an equipment list, but this time of year no mountaineering equipment or technical skills will be necessary to complete the hike.

What will be necessary are demonstrated high level of physical fitness, and experience hiking on rough trail above treeline. The expected mileage is 9-10 miles, and the elevation gain is close to 4000'.
