The focus of the August Steep Snow and Ice (SSI) skill-builder is to develop skills and experience in steeper snow and ice alpine terrain. There are several evenings sessions at the Mazama Mountaineering Center followed by a weekend field session (usually on Hood’s Eliot glacier) with the goal of preparing participants to tackle objectives such as the Kautz glacier or Reid Headwall. Please join us for a brief presentation on what SSI is all about followed by lots of time for discussion. Current volunteer instructors and past students will be available to answer questions.
