Activity Notes

My favorite Mt. Hood hike and my favorite wildflower hike, Barrett Spur is the highest point on the North side of Mt. Hood that can be hiked to. Views from the top look up to several Washington peaks, as well as straight down onto the Coe and Ladd glaciers, ice caves, and waterfalls. We will take the Vista Ridge route through the beautiful Wy'East basin. Last year there were huckleberries aplenty!

While very rewarding, this hike poses a few challenges. The user maintained trail after Wy'East basin is steep, gaining 2100' in 1.5 miles. After the saddle (sometimes called Black Knoll) at 7,300' there is some loose rock and exposure. Please bring poles.

I would recommend reading this trail description and my trip report from last year before applying. The assistant leader was on last year's trip report as well.

We will carpool from Gresham Main City Park at 6:30 AM. Suggested carpool donation will be $16/passenger. If you drive yourself, please meet us at Vista Ridge TH at 8:15 AM.

8 miles, 3300' gain, 7800' at summit

Please email me with any questions!

***Minorities tend to experience higher amounts of stress. There's also lots of evidence that spending time outside in nature and socially engaging outside of work can reduce stress levels. Therefore, I highly encourage and welcome race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, economic, religious, and all other minorities to join me on my hikes!

***This hike will take place on historically Chinook lands. If you would like to help this tribe be federally recognized, they have an active petition!
