The new, more southern approach to Neahkahnie Mountain features berry-filled miles of the Oregon Coast Trail that haven't yet found popularity. The trail gets crowded after passing the official south trailhead 2/3 of the way toward the dramatic high point above the Pacific coast.

Activity Notes

The Oregon Coast Trail segment from Manzanita north to Neahkahnie Mountain only opened two years ago, and when I scouted it last spring I found it yet-so-unpopular that we filled up on delicious wild berries. But we will find it busy once we hit the main trail from the south, and we will not have the summit, with its dramatic Pacific view, to ourselves. This route is longer than the usual routes to Neahkahnie Mountain, but at 6.5 miles and 1,400' it's still a Mazamas A hike.
