The Mazamas offer several first aid courses each year.

Hybrid Wilderness First Aid (WFA)

The Mazama Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course, provided in collaboration with Base Medical, will teach students critical skills for providing basic first aid in the backcountry. Students will learn the foundations of determining scene safety, patient assessment, and identifying common injuries and illness. The course will develop basic first aid knowledge and skills, with a focus on stabilizing and managing a patient in a wilderness setting, where higher levels of care are often hours away. Get WFA Information.

Mountaineering First Aid (MFA)

A 10-hour course that is designed to teach the first-aider how to apply first aid skills in the wilderness, perform advanced patient assessment, improvise equipment and cope with wilderness-specific conditions. It will introduce you to caring for people who become ill or injured far from definitive medical care. Emphasis is placed on long term patient care management and specific injury evaluation. Get MFA Information.

Mountaineering First Aid Recert

There are two options designed to recertify those who need to re-up their first aid skills. Applicants must have a current first aid certification or be within their one year grace period, either MFA or WFR. Get MFA Recert Information.
