This route is the shortest to Rainier's summit, but not necessarily the fastest. It was named for Hans Fuhrer, the guide who led its first ascent. This climb should be done before mid-July to avoid large crevasses on the Nisqually Glacier.

Activity Notes

Please update your profile with the relevant experience as requested below:

1) Participants should know how to use a beacon, shovel and a probe

2) Participants should be in excellent physical shape (1.5 hours or faster to the top of palmer with a 25 lb or heavier pack)

3) Backcountry skiing experience

4) Should have climbed Rainier or similar 14k+ without altitude issues. Please mention date, route and mountain.

5) Should be adept at skiing black diamonds

This will be more of an exploratory climb on skis. We will descend conservatively based on group comfort. We might camp or make this a long car-to-car, depending on conditions and group.
