DESCRIPTION:Devil’s Rest via Larch Mountain Road\n\n12 September 2026\n\
n(This is the second of three hikes that go to Devil’s Rest\, each with
a very different route) \n\nActivity Notes:\n\nHike to Devil’s Rest sta
rting at Larch Mountain Road \n\n8.1 miles\, 1000 feet of elevation gain
(Grade B)\n\nThis route starts at the intersection of Larch Mountain Road
and Palmer Mill Road\, about four miles below the top of Larch Mountain.
Our starting point has an elevation of 2600 feet and Devil’s Rest is at
2400 feet\, so this route we’ll be the easiest\, but will still have ab
out 1000 feet of elevation gain along the way.  We’ll start by walking
down Palmer Mill road\, a gravel road surrounded by moss\, ferns and lots
of trees.  We’ll make our way down to trail 420C overlooking the Wahkee
na creek basin for some good views and heading up to Devil’s Rest.  Loo
ping back\, we’ll take the She Devil trail to the south\, eventually joi
ning up with Palmer Mill Road again.  The trail follows Bridal Veil creek
up the valley and will eventually cross it 10 or more times.  Certain po
rtions of the trail at this point are very primitive and good waterproof b
oots are recommended.  After the creek fades away to nothing\, the trail
joins back up with Palmer Mill gravel road\, which we’ll follow back up
to our starting point.\n\n \n\nPace: Level 2 (2 to 2.5 mph) moderate pace
\, with time for breaks and enjoying the scenery.\n\nWe’ll carpool from
the Gateway Transit Center\, meet at 7:30 am\, departing at 7:40 am.  Or\
, alternately\, meet at the intersection of Larch Mtn Road and Palmer Mill
Road at 8:25 am.  Expect to return to the Gateway transit center by 3 pm

DESCRIPTION:Enchantments Thru-Hike in one day during Larch Madness.\n\nWe&
#39\;ll do an early 5am start at the Stuart/Colchuck TH after leaving so
me cars at the Snow LakesTH - which we&#39\;ll attempt to reach by around
10pm that evening. Since this trail is a bit of an obstacle course\, timi
ng can vary widely. Reach out to me if you have a vehicle with high clear
ance and an interest in driving people to the upper trailhead. Avoiding th
e shuttle system would make this a peak experience. *If we end up voting a
s a group to take the shuttle\, it will be an extra $33 per person. \n\nA
ll trails says 19 miles\, 4800 ft elevation gain. I think it&#39\;s closer
to 22 miles 4900 ft elevation.\n\nThis is a very long\, strenuous day an
d I will screen out people who don&#39\;t have recent vigorous training in
their profile. We will be hiking in the dark for a good portion of the fi
nal stretch. Recommending two headlamps per person or batteries/chargers.
\n\nDescriptions of the different sections of this trail:\n\nChapter 1\n
 \nVery crowded 4 miles to Colchuck Lake 1-2 hours\n\nChapter 2\n\nLarge ro
ck scramble with some scree on the steep ascent of Assguard Pass. 2-4 hou
rs \n\nChapter 3\n\nMild hike through the Upper Core taking pictures of g
oats and lakes. 1 hour\n\nChapter 4\n\nBeginning of the slab section that
goes through another several more lakes. \n\nChapter 5\n\n2-4 hours of sl
ab descent and more large rock scrambling. \n\nChapter 6\n\nThe Death Mar
ch. Not technical\, but rocky switchbacks that will likely drain the energ
y from your soul. &lt\;br&gt\;\n \n\nPlease study multiple reviews of th
is trail before applying. \n\nTeam selection will be completed by Septemb
er 12th. \n\nThis event is for members only.

DESCRIPTION:Old favorite hike that I haven&#39\;t done for seven years. No
w the only way to experience Hart&#39\;s Cove\, its hidden coastal waterfa
ll\, and its soundtrack of barking sea lions\, is to start from the Cascad
e Head South Trailhead. This is a very long day\, as we will hike 14.3 mil
es\, gaining 2\,900&#39\;\, with half the elevation gain before lunch and
half the elevation gain after lunch\, as we have to go back the same way.
But our route&nbsp\;is spectacular at times with pristine coastal forest a
nd the famous coastal view from Cascade Head\, while we&#39\;ll also walk
over a mile on a closed road. It&#39\;s a privilege to hike there\, with o
ur trails kept open less than half the year by the Nature Conservancy and
 Siuslaw National Forest.&nbsp\;

DESCRIPTION:Misery Ridge I believe to be named for its short\, steep uphil
l followed by its short\, steep downhill. We&#39\;ll visit on a day the pa
rking lot shouldn&#39\;t be too crowded and at a time of year when we shou
ldn&#39\;t overheat\, though when scheduling this in August I&#39\;m uncer
tain about the air quality.&nbsp\;\n\nThis is a spectacular hike completel
y open to the elements\, and we can see Smith Rock State Park&#39\;s surro
undings for miles. The highlight is seeing Monkey Face from several angles
. We will also encircle the park from the north\, taking the Summit Trail\
, Burma Road\, and Wolf Tree Trail back to the park&#39\;s bridge. We will
hike 7.4 miles\, gaining 1\,900&#39\;. Note that this day hike requires t
 win three-hour drives.&nbsp\;

DESCRIPTION:Larch Mountain from Multnomah Falls is a hike that starts out
 on Oregon&#39\;s most-hiked trail\, ascends Multnomah Creek\, and eventual
ly enters a subalpine zone where it could be much cooler. If the skies are
clear\, we&#39\;ll get a view of our surroundings from Sherrard Point.&nb
sp\;\n\nWe will hike approximately 14 miles\, gaining 4\,000&#39\; on Hall
oween\, back in time to trick-or-treat with the little ones in our lives.
Because we will likely arrive Multnomah Falls before they open the restroo
 ms\, we will make a rest stop at the Troutdale truck stop.&nbsp\;
