Activity Notes

Hebo Lake to Mt. Hebo summit

Meet at 8am. At Target&185th.

Mt Hebo is about 10 miles south of Tillamook and 5 miles inland. This interesting hike is not commonly  done by the Mazamas. I am doing it as this as an alternative to Saddle Mountain, which is indefinitely closed (and normally a yearly hike for me). .

Hebo is 3,145 feet high and has views  up and down the coast. We will start at Hebo lake (1700 feet) and climb through Douglas fir forest to a large meadow summit plateau, which is the site of an old Air Force SAGE radar base for air defense.  We should also expect to see abundant wildflowers this time of year.  This hike is fairly easy on decent trails and and an old road.

Start point: Hebo Lake Trailhead   /  End point: Mt. Hebo summit

Distance: 9.0 miles Lollipop Loop / Elevation gain: 1535 feet   High Point: 3,145 feet

Difficulty: Moderate
