Activity Notes

Paradise Park is a great summer destination and you're up for a challenge coming on this hike! We'll ascend around 3000 feet with our max elevation around 6000 feet; after taking in the view at Zigzag Overlook we'll continue to the alpine meadows of Paradise Park. The majority of the hike will be away from the crowd. We'll take the popular Timberline Trail for the final traverse to Paradise Park after the long ascent.

The traditional route to Paradise is “closed” right now; around a mile of windfall (trees taken down by strong winds) is blocking the trail. We're starting at Hidden Lake trailhead and returning the same way to avoid the complications of crawling over piles of down trees. That will add some mileage to our day, it's around 15 miles round-trip. You're jumping in for the sights and sticking around for the challenge signing up!

The requirements for the day are normal for a day hike; bring water (2+ liters) and lunch plus appropriate clothes and accessories. That means you'll have a day pack to keep everything together. Sun protection will be required to join; I'll leave it to you to decide what's best (hat vs. sunglasses, long sleeves vs. sunscreen). Bring everything I include on the requirements list at the Mazamas website or I'll let you know you won't be able to come because you won't be safe.
