Activity Notes
Crescent mountain is an easy scramble located in one of the most scenic areas of Mt Rainier National Park. The approach is on an old abandoned road, and the Wonderland and North Loop trails. There is no bush whacking on this climb.
Tentative schedule. Our plan will depend on the camp location of the overnight walk-in permit we get Friday. We probably will be bivying in a cross-country zone rather than an established camp site.
9/13 Fri: Drive to Carbon River Ranger station and get a permit. Camp in the area.
9/14: Sat: Bike the gravel Carbon River Road 5 miles to Ipsut campground, and hike the Wonderland Trail and North Loop Trail to the Crescent or Tyee cross-country zone(s).
9/15 Sun: climb Crescent (and if there is time, nearby Tyee). Walk out and return to Portland in late evening.
