Activity Notes

This beautiful route takes us past Mirror Lake, where we stop briefly for pictures of Mt. Hood's reflection in the water. We then continue up to the Tom-Dick ridge line for lunch, and if the weather cooperates, a 5-peak view.

We depart from the SE corner of the Gateway Transit Center at 7:30 AM. We should arrive at the trailhead around 8:45-9:00 am.

***A NW Forest Pass is required at the trailhead parking lot for each car.***

Driving Directions:  From I5, take the I-84 exit going East.  Take exit 16, 238th Dr exit, toward Wood Village.  Turn right onto 238th Dr.  NE 238th Dr becomes Mt Hood Scenic Byway.  Turn slight left onto NE Burnside Rd/Mt Hood Scenic Byway. Continue to follow Mt Hood Scenic Byway.  Stay straight to go onto SE Mount Hood Hwy/US-26 E. Continue to follow US-26 E.  Turn right at the Skibowl exit.  Instead of turning left into Skibowl, turn right into parking area for Mirror Lake/Tom Dick and Harry Mountain trailhead.

Roundtrip mileage is about 90 miles.  Suggested donation to drivers is $0.10 per mile or approx. $9.00 per person.

Hike distance is approx. 7.8 miles. Elevation gain is approx. 1,715 ft.  It sounds like there is some snow on the trail (close to the top).  You could bring some YakTrax for extra traction if you like.  Please bring hiking shoes.  No cotton please.  If you sweat in cotton, it does not dry fast like synthetics and you could get really cold if it was windy at the top.  :(. Don’t forget your warm puffy and a warm hat in case it is windy.
