Mathew Brock

Mathew Brock joined the Mazama staff in February of 2015. He holds a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Washington and a Bachelors of Social Science from the University of Alaska Southeast. Besides overseeing the Mazama Library and Historical Collections, Mathew also is managing editor for the Mazama Bulletin and oversees a variety of areas in the day-to-day operation of the Mazamas.

Mathew first climbed South Sister as a teenager. Later, while living in Alaska, he developed a love of hiking, backpacking, rock climbing. He completed BCEP in the Spring of 2016. Besides being outdoors, Mathew enjoys traveling, cooking, building things, and spending time with his wife and daughter.

Cathy Dow

Cathy joined the Mazamas in 2024.  After getting a degree in History from Northern Illinois University, she went in a different direction and acquired 20+ years of small business and nonprofit bookkeeping and accounting experience.  In 2021, the allure of corn and soybean fields faded and she moved to the PNW.  In addition to hiking, camping and Nordic skiing, she can be found playing with her three dogs, spinning wool, gardening and planning new adventures.

Rebekah Phillips

With expertise in both earned revenue and audience development strategies, Rebekah (she/her) comes to the Mazamas with 20 years of non-profit marketing, communications and leadership experience. After graduating from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, her career began in the performing arts. At past positions at Oregon Symphony (Director of Marketing, Communications & Sales) and Portland Columbia Symphony (Executive Director) Rebekah was instrumental in developing digital, brand, and content strategies, and led her teams to earned income records at both institutions. She most recently served as VP for Marketing & Enrollment at the National University of Natural Medicine. A distance runner, hiker, and Master Naturalist-in-training, Rebekah is a lifelong outdoor enthusiast, as well as a gardener and history junkie. With service at the center of her ethos, Rebekah is an active volunteer in her community and has served on several non-profit boards.

Brendan Scanlan

Brendan Scanlan joined our staff in March of 2021 and serves as the IT & Operations Manager. Brendan brings a diverse background of database, program, and project management to the Mazamas. Prior to joining the Mazamas, Brendan worked in management consulting with a focus on non-labor cost reduction, IT systems implementation, and network development. Brendan also served on multiple non-profit boards in Chicago before moving to Portland.
Outside of work, you can find Brendan playing with his dog Winston, rock climbing at Smith Rock or one of the local crags, backpacking in the wilderness, baking bread or making pasta, or snowboarding down a steep slope.
